Harvey Siegel, 81, of Northfield, Minn., formerly of Duluth, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008 at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, Minn. He was the youngest of four sons, born Feb. 8, 1927 in Duluth to Joseph Siegel and Lena (Latts) Siegel, both Russian born. He attended Central High School and at 17 joined the Navy to serve in World War II as a radio operator. Upon returning from the war he earned his GED. He was a strong believer in self education and became a voracious reader. Very athletic and an avid sports enthusiast, Harvey excelled in a number sports. He played professional baseball in Wisconsin, was a winning ping pong player, and was known to handle a pool stick on a snooker table like a shark. Harvey loved golf and was a long term member of Ridgeview Country Club where he played many low scoring games and gleaned a hole-in-one. Bowling was another one of his favored sports. Some of his many accomplishments in the sport included 700+ series tournaments, 300 games, and being inducted into the Duluth Area Bowling Hall of Fame. A strong interest in politics and world events always made for interesting conversations with him. He had a successful career of 33 years with General Electric Supply where he earned many sales awards. Harvey married Marguerite Warren in 1961, and had two children, Lee and Suzanne. They later divorced, but maintained a strong friendship throughout the years. Harvey was known to be witty, generous, and to have deep affection for his family. So he could be closer to his family, Harvey moved to Northfield in 2006.
